Family Farming and Food Tourism – Agri Tourism and Slow Travel

Kim Lewis from Cooloola Berries will talk about their journey down the Agri Tourism path as an addition to their family strawberry farm activities.

Slow Food Noosa returns to the gorgeous Peppers Resort for their scrumptious smorgasbord breakfast where Kim Lewis from Cooloola Berries will talk about their journey down the Agri Tourism path as an addition to their strawberry farm activities.

As third-generation strawberry farmers, Kim and Jason Lewis from Cooloola Berries have taken the business to the next level to create an award-winning farmgate-to-plate agri-tourism experience.

One of the greatest achievements has been opening the gates of the family farm, welcoming visitors to pick strawberries fresh from the field, creating special experiences and offering a taste of the region on the ‘Snail of Approval Slow Food’ locally-inspired menu.

The café, artisan store and function venue host regular events along with the growth of value-added products from strawberry cider to jams, sauces, ice creams, freeze dried fruit and more! Cooloola Berries has been nominated for the National Delicious Produce Award by Christine Manfield (2018) and awarded State Delicious produce winners for 2018 & 2016. But it hasn’t always been easy.

Join Slow Food Noosa to find out more about this farming family and the challenges they have overcome to be one of the region’s shining lights for local produce, providing an authentic farmgate experience and creating value-added products. Kim will highlight some practical examples of success as well as the difficulties faced in a very inspiring talk of a small business learning to diversify in order to survive and thrive.
